Problem gamblers not allowed to drive in Russia

Pathological gambling has been included on the list of personality disorders which negatively affects the ability to drive safely. As a result gambling and betting addicts are now banned from driving in Russia. Those identified as transvestites, transsexuals, voyeurs, paedophiles and kleptomaniacs are also prohibited to get behind the steering wheel of a car.

The Russian government explained that the new law is based on the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems developed by World Health Organization. The controversial law, which has entered into force last week, aims to reduce the high level of road accidents in Russia.

Around 28 thousand people die every year in road accidents in Russia. Roads in the UK, Denmark, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland are considered the safest.
